Strings - some string parts are easy enough to get convincing, others are not. Not going to happen, unless you massively compromise that part to suit the library. Those instruments are also relatively easy to get convincing enough parts from samples though, so ymmv.īut if I absolutely needed to have an expressive violin solo as a lead part, and I can't play it myself, then I know that I'm am simply not going to get an expressive part from samples. It's fun, adds life, and those instruments are relatively easy to play. There are some instruments that are relatively easy to "fake", and some that are not.įor example, I recommend going out and buying percussion stuff and recording proper performances, rather than relying on sample libraries all the time, assuming you have a space that can record them nicely.

But it's all about reality and practicality. Well, yeah, but why don't all any of you guys who want Tibetan temple bells, tuba, sitar, french horn, cello, violin, Mongolian Goat Cluster, etc go out and buy the instrument, take lessons, and master them before you record? Or find yourself a guitar player to collaborate with. Skill and experience do not come in plugin form, unfortunately. Years before you can start to make it sing (I've gone through this process myself, and I can play well enough to write and record parts decently so I'm in a good place, though by no means do I consider myself a guitar player.)Īre there any recommended third party plug ins that can help me out? pick up a guitar from scratch and you have to realise that you are going to su.ck for Is there something I can do to make the guitar sounds seem more real? You've just answered your first question. Is there something I am missing? I admit I am a keyboard player, so I don't know much about guitars. You can get close within limitations, but this does require input from the composer - it doesn't matter how authentic the samples, if you don't play like a guitarist it won't sound like a guitar. If you understand the guitar (ie, play it yourself), then with appropriate keyboard playing, sounds and performance characteristics, then it's possible to achieve convincing parts as long as they are not too demanding.īut the bottom line is that guitars have an almost infinite range of tones depending on how you manipulate the strings, and are complex and subtle instruments. This is nothing to do with Logic as such - it's almost impossible to achieve realistic guitar parts with samples played on a keyboard. Is it just me, or does it seem that Logic's built in guitar sounds cannot be made to sound like authentic guitars?
